I started out on a new quest in my life ten years ago from the writing of this post. I thought it to be a noble journey. A journey I feel every person will be faced with one day when they come to that fork in the road during their life. To follow the path of the same old same old and just accept the way things are… or mount your gallant steed and do battle with the ordinary in search of the way things ought to be.
In this I have developed an affinity for prose’s best know knight-errant, Cervantes’s “Don Quixote”. I believe if Senior Cervantes’s were to read this he would find a strange resemblance between myself and the child of his brain, Don Quixote
You see… we both embarked on our journey at the same time in our lives. The Shakspearianesque dilemma that must have rolled around in Senior Quixada head roles around in mine, “Am I crafty, or am I crazy. That is the question”. As Quixote’s steed was of modest means with an appearance that could be considered unsightly, I ride this free Twitter internet space. Like Quixote’s helmet, which was made of other things to resemble a helmet, my recording studio is an assemblage of home entertainment components that resembles a recording studio. After retrieving a suit of armor which had lain in a corner, forgotten for years, Don Quixote cleaned and furbished it the best he could. As so I did with my musical talent and trombone playing abilities. The Man of La Mancha carried a lance and a sword. I brandish a trombone and the desire to play music. The main reason I feel my feelings are simpatico with this archaic knight of chivalry is that both Quixote and I did the best we could with what was available as we set forth on our journey.
Now, you may think the above correlation I have made between myself and a fictional character is strange. But let me tell you, I find peace and solace in this correlation. The reason being; if my music and life ends up a failure and I have the bad luck timing of going whack-o just as a news van is passing by, my life won’t be a waste. Everyone who reads this will have had an experience that might serve them well at a later date.
So just remember, If your are ever in a bar and a news flash come on the TV saying, “Crazed Texan bashes the hell out of a windmill with a trombone – pictures at 10pm” You can stand, point to the TV and announce to your friends, “Hey! I read that guy’s Twitter page.”
